- 2002 "Human genome research law" and related Regulation of Cabinet of Ministries comes into force in the Republic of Latvia. These legal acts regulate the framework for genetic research in Latvia, establishment of State Genome registry and Genome Database.
- 2003 begins Latvian Genome research pilot project programm with the aim to establish infrastructure for Latvian Genome project. Infrastructure is designed to ensure quality of sample and data collection, processing and maintenance. Over 2800 participants are recruited during pilot project.
- November 1st, 2006. Latvian Biomedical Research and Study centre is approved as the main custodian of Genome Database. Genome database begins to centralized biological material collection and strenghtening of research infrastructure.
- 2008 Genome Database of Latvian population becomes:
1) Associated member of P3G (Public population projects in genomics)

- August 25th, 2016. Latvia becomes a full member of BBMRI-ERIC (Biobanking and Biomolecular Resources Research Infrastructure European Research Infrastructure Consortium) and Latvian Biomedical Research and Study centre is appointed as National Node of Latvian Biobank network BBMRI.LV and Dr. biol. Jānis Kloviņš, as national coordiantor. Approval document here.
- 2017 Genome Database of Latvian population is included in BBMRI-ERIC biobank catalogue Directory. Link to the catalogue here.
- 2017 Genome Database of Latvian population signs BBMRI-ERIC Partner Charter.
- 2018 article describing creation and results of Genome Database is published in Journal of Epidemiology. Link to the publication here.
- 2018 Genome Database of Latvian population is included in European research infrastrucure catalogue MERIL (Mapping of the European Research Infrastructure Landscape). Link to the catalogue here.
